Mufti Abdurragmaan Khan

Shaykh Abdurragmaan Khan is the Mufti of the Muslim Judicial Council and the Rector of Dar al-Turath al-Islami (DTI). He also teaches, holds executive positions in several organisations, and serves the community.
Shaykh Abdurragmaan began his traditional Islamic studies at the age of 16. He completed the memorization of the Qur’an under Shaykh Ismail Londt at Dār Ubaiy Institute in 2000. He graduated from Dār al-‘Ulūm al-‘Arabiyyah al-Islāmiyyah (DUAI) in Strand in 2006, benefiting greatly from its lecturers, particularly its founder and principal, Maulana Taha Karaan. From 2007 to 2010 he furthered his studies in Fatawa and Islamic commercial transactions with Maulana Taha.
After graduating, Shaykh Abdurragmaan taught at DUAI. He established DTI in 2009 and co-founded the Maḥabbah Foundation in 2011. He joined the Fatwah Committee of the Muslim Judicial Council of South Africa in 2013. He is an Imam at Masjied Ghiedmah al-Islamiyyah, Taronga Road, Cape Town. In addition, he has taught for SeekersGuidance, and appears regularly on the Voice of the Cape Radio.
From 2010 to 2012, Shaykh Abdurragmaan pursued Quranic studies specialising in recitation according to the path of the Shatibiyyah with Qari Saleem Gaibie in Cape Town. He also has ‘ijazah in the Qirā’ah of Imam Kisa’i from Shaykh Idrīs from Malawi.
Shaykh Abdurragmaan has received ijazah ‘ammah from various luminaries, including al-Ḥabīb ‘Umar bin Ḥafīẓ; Maulana Yusuf Karaan, the former Mufti of Cape Town; al-Ḥabīb ‘Ali al-Mashhūr, the former Mufti of Tarim; al-Ḥabīb ‘Umar al-Jaylāni, the Shafi’i Mufti of Makkah; Sayyid Ahmad bin Abi Bakr al-Ḥabshi; al-Ḥabīb Kāẓim al-Saqqaf; Shaykh Maḥmūd Sa’īd Mamdūh; Maulana ‘Abdul Ḥafīẓ al-Makki; Shaykh Ala al-Din al-Afghāni; Maulana Fazlur Rahman al-Azami; and Shaykh Yaḥya al-Ghawthāni.
He travels regularly for the purpose of calling to Allah, particularly to African countries, such as Zanzibar, Tanzania, Kenya, the Gambia, Somalia, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon. He has also travelled to Egypt, the UK and Canada.
