How does one Perform Wudu and Salah with Constant Release of Impurities?

Question

As-salaamu alaykum. I have a condition where stools are getting backed up in the colon, and the doctor says it’s called Anal Stenosis. This means stools come out slowly, in bits, which causes me two main problems:
  1. Passing Wind: Since stools don’t come out fully, I often pass gas continuously. It happens gradually, so I have to wait until it’s all out. If I try to ignore it, I end up passing gas during wudu or even in salat. This keeps me in the bathroom for a long time, and it disrupts my wudu repeatedly.
  2. Urine Leakage: During istinja, urine sometimes comes out in small amounts due to the same issue. I try to manage it by using towels to protect my clothes, but it’s still challenging.
These issues mean that I often end up praying close to the end of the salat time window, trying to be free from حدث, but I still struggle. Sometimes, I repeat my prayers two to three times if I feel like urine or gas came out. I’m finding it hard to stay free from these impurities throughout the salat time. How should I perform my prayers?

May Allah grant you relief from your medical difficulties and help you find a lasting solution for your ailments. Remember, Allah does not place a burden on any soul beyond its capacity, and indeed, great reward awaits those who practice patience and strive to maintain their salah steadfastly.

Regarding your specific question, I will summarize the rulings as clearly as possible to avoid any confusion:

1. If you are experiencing a constant release of either feces, urine, or flatus (wind) and there isn’t enough time to perform both purification and salah without encountering these impurities, you are classified as someone in a continuous state of ritual impurity (da’im al-hadath).
2. In this case, you only need to purify yourself once the time for salah has entered. This includes cleaning your private areas and covering them with a cloth to prevent soiling your clothes. You may then immediately proceed with your salah.
3. With this wudu, you may perform one obligatory prayer as well as any number of supererogatory prayers, without needing to repeat prayers performed in this state.
4. You may not delay in performing the salah after making wudu; it must be performed immediately, unless you are waiting for a legislated congregational salah.
5. The flow of urine, wind, or feces does not invalidate your salah.
6. If it is possible to prevent the exiting of these impurities by sitting during prayer, then it is obligatory to sit and not stand, thereby performing salah in a complete state of purity. If one sits to prevent the exiting of impurities, it is not necessary to repeat the salah.
